The Seven Amendments

The bill amends Articles 55, 81, 82, 170, 330, 332, and 334A of the Constitution. In five of six substantive clauses, the same transformation occurs: "the last preceding census" becomes "such census as Parliament may by law determine."
The pattern
The third proviso — the freeze that has protected seat allocation since 1976 — is deleted in both Article 82 (Lok Sabha) and Article 170 (State Assemblies). The choice of which census to use moves from constitutional text to ordinary legislation.
